PL-L CFLs are far better than curly CFLs because they distribute their light evenly, and they take up less than 1" of vertical space; a 50w curly CFL takes up nearly 5" of vertical space if installed level with the top of the grow box. PL-L CFLs also distribute their heat evenly throughout the tube and do not get vey hot. In fact, you can hold a PL-L without it burning your skin unlike a standard CFL, which means your plants will not be burned severely if they touch them.

*Power cost estimation guide-

Since these lights are so energy efficient, you are getting huge amounts of light (and growing power) for your money. Four of these new CFLs running at 50watts each would be equivalent to running approximately 1000watts of standard incandescent light bulbs. Thanks to modern technology, we only have to pay for 200watts.
 Overall your electricity bill depends on the price you pay per k/hr. To get the kilowatt hour for these bulbs we multiply 200 by the hours of operation (lets say 18) and divide by 1000 which equals  3.6 k/hrs. Check your power bill for the cost of each kilowatt hour in your area. Then multiply the number of kilowatt hours by the cost of a kilowatt hour (k/hr) to arrive at the cost per month to run the grow box. On average it shouldn't be more than a few dollars.
